Amazon lists this item as SACD only (require SACD player to play).

Consider this is from Telarc, it is a little strange. Any hearsay about it?

Ignore what Amazon says.

Quotes from Telarc website:

//Zander had originally planned to record Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, but after performing Bruckner’s Fifth with the Boston Philharmonic last season, he realized that this would be his next recording. “It is a masterpiece of staggering proportions,” he says of Bruckner’s Fifth, “one of the greatest symphonies ever written. I had a sudden strong urge to record that.” //

Also, among the many Zander You Tube leadership/music lectures, one can hear him saying that he had just finished recording Mahler 8. It wasn't said wether this was for Telarc with PO or with... say the Boston Philharmonic for some reasons unknown to me.

Apparently Zander insists on a discussion disc with the Mahlers and this has delayed or ended the project? Some news will be welcome.

The first of the Mahler series (symphony #9) was issued by Telarc but not recorded or produced by them. It was privately sponsored and the sponsor wanted the discussion disc. That release was highly successful and from that point on, according to Zander, Telarc insisted on the discussion discs which certainly have set this series apart from all others as well as making it far more difficult to complete. The 9th and 4th are rbcd only. The 9th, as stated, was produced elsewhere, and recorded in PCM stereo. The 4th was produced and recorded in DSD by Telarc but never released in sacd due what Telarc described to me in an email as their inability to achieve an acceptable multichannel mix. This is a shame because both performances are fabulous. Since Concord has effectively dismantled Telarc one can only hope that the rest of the series will be completed, perhaps by Robert Woods new company.

Acoustic Sounds lists it as "Hybrid Multichannel SACD". Release date is Feb 24.

Here's the reply I received from BenjaminZander.com re whether or not Mahler's 2nd Symphony will be recorded and released on SACD:

"We are recording Mahler 2nd in March. After that, as soon as possible.

Thanks for your interest.

Bruckner 5th is coming out in February. Also in SACD.

Best wishes

Ben Zander
