Many thanks for a very interesting review; this disc will be on my wishlist.

I should point out that the Watford Colosseum, well-known for its fine acoustics, is in Hertfordshire, not London.

Thanks for the heads up on Watford - I'm just a poor Northern lad who hasn't been south for years! London is stated (loosely perhaps) in the booklet and some websites. Hope you enjoy the disc(s).

No problem, my geography gets a little hazy north of Watford :)

I always enjoy your reviews. Keep up the good work.

The SACD disk in my copy plays quite nicely, but the BD disk behaves badly.

When I play the BD disk via HDMI through my receiver I see the aurora video on my TV (Sony 40 EX700) and I get nice multichannel sound; however, the aurora video is just a loop and gets repetitive after a while, so I decided to turn off the TV; after all, this is supposed to be an "audio-only" BD! But, lo and behold, turning off the TV shuts down the BD player...this must be some quirk of the HDMI system verification system. The only way I can get the BD player to work in audio-only mode is to physically disconnect the TV.

This is a technical hardware problem between your AVR and TV then, probably a HDMI handshake problem. It does not sound to me that it is in any way the fault of the disc. Admittedly, the BD is one of the best sounding MCh discs I have in my collection, it also beats the SACD.

Yes, it must be a handshake problem, but am I alone with this problem or does it affect everyone that uses HDMI?

This is difficult to say. HDMI handshake problems are probably the most confusing problem in the industry today. Which machine has problems with what another has become a near unmanageable feat. I know from Denon that they are continuously releasing firmware updates to solve these problems. What AVR do you use ? Did you update the FW recently ? This might help, provided the problem has been tackled already.

Edit & could have looked before ;-) . You seem to have a Denon. FW updated ?

Yes, I have the latest updates for the BD, AVR, and TV. But if the handshaking works correctly, is the BD player >supposed< to turn off when the TV is turned off?

I guess Michael, that the use of the term "HDMI handshake" is supposed to confirm your status as a computer nerd but as this is primarily a music forum it would be courteous to the majority of users not to use fashionable gobble-de-gook to describe the point you are making. Most will just sigh with the impatient tolerance usually reserved for noisy adolescents rather than try to understand you.

HDMI can be setup to cause this, so it is not usually faulty hardware, but a setting problem.

I believe you need to look for a setting called HDMI control and turn it off.
