Looks like the European version of this (the BDP-831) has been abandoned:

There's also confirmation from various posters on avforums who have contacted Oppo.

Thank you for your replies, Windsurfer and Fitzcaraldo215. I do agree the issue seems to be blown up by certain entities. However, it is now clear to me what the issue exactly is.

Today I read that, unfortunately, the European version, which I was eager to buy, is postponed...

I am using HDMI ouput (bitstream setting) to a Denon AVR-988 (DSD-compatible device). The Denon displays "DSD Pure Multi" when it receives the signal. Yet I still have the occasional "clicks" during track changes.

Have you updated to the latest firmware?

Lest we get too technical here, I would suggest that help with specific issues should come from Oppo Tech Support and AVS Forum Official BDP-83 Owner's Thread.

Yes, I updated to the latest firmware.

Well, take it to Oppo tech support. There have been some Denon-specific issues in the past, or perhaps the problem remains more general and more elusive than I was led to believe. In the mean time, I hope and trust that PCM output does work OK for you. I personally have not heard any substantive difference via HDMI, but perhaps you have (aside from output level).

Ok, do not laugh, I am confused, this entire episode is way over my pay scale.

Here is my question; if I buy one of these machines knowing that all issues have not been resolved, and use it in stereo mode for now using analog RCA interconnects and with no HDMI cables in the room, will I still have clicks & pops?

Firmware BDP83-40-0925 (apparently the latest)
HDMI audio set to LPCM
SACD output set to PCM

My Sony STR-DA2400 ES will not decode DSD on HDMI so I cannot use it. The analogue outputs of the Oppo are audibly better than PCM via HDMI, and these exhibit low-level clicks, at track junctions on SACD only, so work still needs to be done to cure this problem.
Disconnecting the HDMI only when playing SACDs is not a practical suggestion for me. Happily, despite a sensitivity to these things, I am able to live with the clicks since they are quiet and not during programme material. If others cannot, and SACD is of prime importance, then I regretfully have to concur that the BDP-83 may not yet be for them. They would be missing a lot of pleasure from its superb video and audio performance.

No. It is all HDMI handshake related. If there is no HDMI connection, there is no problem.

Your point is well taken based on your experience. Unfortunately, there is now no easy way I can even induce the problem in SACD playback. Mine is pefectly fine in either DSD or PCM mode via HDMI. All indications so far at AVS Forum have been that PCM output solves the problem for those who still have it with DSD. It has for quite a few. But, apparently, it does not in all cases. It seems now to be a function of what specific equipment is connected.

I have posted several times myself at AVS to see who else is still having the issue. Except for two recent posters at AVS Forum and now two here, I have seen no other reports of the problem. Fortunately, it seems restricted now to someting minor between tracks.

Does using 'Pure Audio' mode have any effect on the problem?
