Absolutely superb music maiking and recording! Now I MUST get the earlier releases in the ccycle. If you want monumental Beethoven, Szell's your guy, but this is absolutely involving. As corny as it seems even to me, this transported me to another world. Fabulous!

Gee--- do you think he likes it?

No doubt the recording is superb. It is the best sounding Emperor I have. Maybe the piano is a little too prominent, but overall a beautiful soundscape.

I liked the interpretation, too, but Mustonen's phrasing and accenting are at best controversial. I almost always enjoy something different hoping that a new take will bring out hidden enjoyment, but some folks don't like performers who stray too far from the score. Mustonen, like Pletnev and others, keep making the classics interesting. They could be today's Cziffra, Horowitz, Wild, or Cherkassky.

Again, a wonderful release that I'll enjoy many times.
