The question I have is: do you think he has actually heard all these SACDs? I suppose it's possible.....Any thoughts?

It's all part of the mystery of De Selby, isn't it? Isn't it "fun" to just try to decipher where he's coming from musically? intellectually? his frame of reference in terms of recorded music and live sound? Perhaps we'll never know... It's an unsolved mystery that I really just don't care about anymore.

My guess is, he probably hasn't given these SACDs more than a perfunctory listen, and probably doesn't know the music at all. But then again, the opposite may be true... but then again, we'll never know until he shares more. All this guessing and second guessing, and decoding and supposing is just a waste. I've spent more time thinking about his reviews than it probably takes him to write 25 reviews. I give up.

Waste of time: yes.

Utility: none.

I vote for a global delete of his one-liner "reviews."

If you read the Review Guidelines posted by ZEUS, you'll see that De Selby broke more than one rules. The kicker is why he has been allowed to keep doing it ???

Inquisitive mind would like to know!

Check out the last review: only one, and 19 words, 400% longer than average. This is clearly a watershed, the equivalent of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony : 'A Soviet artist's reply to just criticism.'

There are some excellent short reviews. I read one of Sylvester Stallone's 'Rambo 3' ( not yet on SACD ): " Most provocative movie ever made about world peace starring an inarticulate man with big tits."

I don't know how I missed this thread for so long. But reading it was a hoot!
Some of you need to get lives!
De Selby's reviews do nothing for me, but I don't get worked up over that: I simply ignore them.
Did they waste my time? Of course not. But a case could be made that this thread did when you consider how long it took me to read 94 posts! I'm just excited there are more people convinced by this format and willing to try to carry the torch.
So to all SACD listeners: don't ne intimidated by the snobs: keep the reivews coming!

At a White House dinner one night, a guest said, "You must talk to me, Mr. Coolidge. I made a bet today that I could get more than two words out of you."

The president simply replied:

"You lose."

And the review for "I am a Camera" was "Me no Leica".

There is a website specialising in four word reviews, and someone remarked, "Four words? That's hard."

Hohohohoho.

That must have been because the two last discs he reviewed were a very frustrating experience:

Well, the good news is that he is slowing down in writing his reviews...
the bad news is that it may be due to a slowdown in jazz releases!

What is the problem? I personally find De Selby's reviews to be a valuable and worthwhile guide to sound quality... He has a decent system, and offers a succinct view on such a large range of releases. I personally find long reviews useless and boring, most of the time.

On behalf of those who write long reviews - thanks! :)
