Robert, are you a little bit curious that fuse rolling would further improve your main amps and pre~amps? I've read that changing fuses especially improves the pre~amp section because it is, after all, the heart of one's system.

I have not given any thought to fuse rolling since I was not familiar with the concept.

I agree that the pre is the heart of the system.....I say exactly that in my system description. In my case, my "pre" is a passive line stage and thus has no fuses.

Otherwise, changing amp fuses are easy enough. I may look in to it.

Hi

Posting here because there doesn't appear to be a classifieds- hopefully that's not breaking any rules. I have a Sony XA-5400 ES for a sale, which I bought from Stone Audio. It is in mint condition and perfect working order, a year and a half old and has only seen occasional use (a rough guess would be about six months in total). I've honestly barely touched it in a year or so but tend to be very slow in putting my gear onto the market- no joke. It comes with original box, remote and manual etc. Item location is central London, UK. I'm looking for around £800 ono. Thanks.

Hi.

Is this still available?

The availablility of the Sony SCD-XA5400ES is a question which cannot easily be answered by yes or no. It was never widely available, and is not officially out of production.

I don't know if this is allowable or not on forums, but I have a few XA-5400ES's that I stocked up on for "future use". They were all purchased from an authorized reseller (I have receipts).

I have 3 brand new ones, and 1 used one (with the original box, manuals, etc. - but not the original styrofoam. It will be packed with extreme care, however).

While I want to keep 2 of these for myself, I would consider selling the used one for $1,200 (shipping included), or a brand new one for $1,450 (shipping included). All shipping includes double-boxing, tracking, and insurance. Shipping within continental United States only please. Payment via PayPal only and the buyer will be responsible for the 3% PayPal surcharge.

The used one is absolutely blemish-free, looks brand new, and has less than 100 actual playing hours on it.

All players were purchased October 2010 or later.

If you're interested, please e-mail me: gadgetguru@gmail.com.

Thanks much,
-Ken

P.S. Pic is of the 3 brand new ones.

The irony of the PF article is that it was a very recent review of a three year old unit. By revisiting the SA~112S and pitting it against the newer Pearl which was so highly regarded and alleging that with said fuse rolling the SA~112s sounded not only better in SACD playback but dramatically so in RBCD was ultimately revealing in itself.

In your memory, Stvnharr, how many reviewers actually go backward to re~review components unless it's relevant enough to post a rather comprehensive re~evaluation?

And the Pearl's limited production has been exhausted and the SA~112s is currently in production which means.........

I have only just read the PFO article by Jeff Parks ,I am wondering if Marantz sends different versions of their players to the US than to the UK, apart from voltage dfference I doubt it. Mr Parks says the Marantz SA-11S2 has a fantastic bass response, however the UK What Hi-Fi ? magazine states , what problems the the Marantz has lurk at the bottom end, low frequencies lack ultimate definition and the relative vague entry into and exit from the bass notes cause tempos to plod a little - low end could be more textured. Sum up. " the lack of bottom end rigour hampers the big Marantz, low frequencies could be better controlled." I have never auditioned the Marantz SA-11S2 for two reasons, 1. it does not support MCH SACD which I find far more realistic than Stereo. 2. I once owned the player it was derived from the overated obese Marantz SA7-S1 , What Hi-Fi?'s description of the bass from the S11-2S exactly describes the bass better than I could from the SA7-S1. Up to then being a long time Marantz fan I was so disappointed with the sound of the expensive SA7 compared to my now 22 year old Marantz CD94 (KI mods) that I sold it. Mark Lawton's review of the SA7 in PFO ended with him saying he was now sending off the SA7 to the Mod Man requesting a long list of required improvements ( I totally agree) SA7 excellent mechanicals but not the sound, a follow up of the modded SA7 never appeared. This maybe because of the long winded totally absurd over the top review by the mysterious Dr Sarconicus a friend of the PFO Editor who will not reveal the true name of Dr S. I can now imagine Rammiepie Hired Fox & others going berserk ha.
