This thread is old and may be dormant ..but just in case, is there any chance Tubular Bells will be reprinted in SACD? I missed it and sorely do miss it.

Is the SACD Quad only? There isn't a 5.1 SACD out right?

The reason I ask is because it's listed here for $29.99
http://www.musicdirect.com/product/76786

They say it's been back-ordered for a few weeks now and they were supposed to receive a shipment on Dec/19, but it didn't arrive as of yet. They have 17 copies on order.

They also have a Japanese SACD of Tubular Bells for $39.99 - it's back-ordered too.

Thanks for the prompt return . .however when I called them they (rather he, as in the same guy twice) told me the 5.1 was discontinued and the Japanese version was 2 channel. Did you call? . .and if so what did they / he & or her tell you?

I clicked on the album cover for the Japanese import of Tubular Bells at Music Direct and the label says multi channel. I did the same thing when I ordered the Herbie Hancock "Headhunters" import and it was multi channel.

It definitely says multi-channel (so I presume it's the Quad mix?) and it's listed as coming into stock on Tuesday!! Hopefully it's for real, I'd like to get a new copy of this without paying $100!

I have the original LP of "Tubular Bells," and don't understand all the current interest in this recording, especially at $40 or more, but then, that's only my opinion.

Insofar as the original topic of this thread, I've found that ArkivMusic.com is an excellent source for the purchase of classical SACD's. They do have discs that are other than classical, but those are far and few in between, and difficult to find amongst the site's listings. For the most part, I've been very satisfied with browsing the site for availability of certain pieces of music, reading reviews of particular discs, and being able to make an informed purchase. It is through ArkivMusic that I "discovered" the sensational BIS/Vanska Beethoven symphonies, as well as a few other sonic knockouts.

Well that product listing now takes you to the main page and a search for Tubular Bells shows only the 200g LP.

So I guess that solves that mystery. There ain't no Japanese SACD quad pressing coming. Drats.
