99.999% of all speakers made since about 1930 use a permanent magnet as part of the mechanism. If you demagnetize, it will no longer speak!

So, pray tell Sage Rammie - How do you "demagnetize" your speakers?

The only method I know is to heat the magnet above the Currie point. However this will destroy the rest of the speaker components as well.

Paul, it's really high time that you waxed your chest......and that second hand smoke.............

And the most pressing question of them all: Where do YOU intend to build that Mosque?????????

Jeeves, you don't recognize yourself anymore.
It's about time you take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.
And take a bath for crist sakes! Personal hygiene will do wonders for your mental state.

Build a Mosque??? Keep smokin' whatever you're smokin'. It's performing wonders on your reading comprehension ability. Not to mention my entertainment.

Anything for your ultimate pleasure and gratification, Paulo......

An idea. You can level your gas station and build your mosque there.

And despite your cockamamie treatise on magnets, demagnetizing one's speakers not only makes perfect sense but it works, silly boy!

Do me a favor, continue doing what you do best ...... being clueness in New York.

But at least this thread got you off your Brit~Twit bashing rampage [where I suspect an overdose of alcohol was the culprit].

People that live in Glass Mosques shouldn't throw bagels!

Lesson Learned: DEMAGNETIZE, DON'T ANTAGONIZE!

Id like to learn more about speaker demaging. As i understand it. The voice coil when excited pushes the cone foward. Now the magnet pulls it back. So how's it work if you demag it?

This tweek i need to comprehend.

To answer your question; yes.

I heard it, I purchased it, I have listened to it on various systems and I am convinced that it is the best digital format there is.

Go out and buy the Oppo and some of your favourite disc's and listen. Then decide for yourself.

BTW, I am very partial to M/C; it really sold me.

Clem: regarding demagnetizing your speakers, DSD (Teresa) explained it very well. Over time, the voice coils become magnetized and waving the Talisman (available from Music Direct or Walker Audio (actually, Lloyd who answers his own phones and developed the Talisman could explain it much better than I ever could) over the voice coils removes built up magnetism. Teresa (DSD) uses a disc which when played through the system removes residual magnetism but I've gone that route and although it improved the system, I find that the Talisman, when done twice (after the system is sufficiently warmed up) is a vast improvement.

Everyone on this site wants scientific explanations and I really don't think that this warrants a white paper explanation. Google Walker Audio, speak to Lloyd Walker and also ask him about his Ultra~Vivid Polish kit. He does not take credit cards but usually discounts his products and throws in free shipping. The man knows what he's talking about and is truly a character (in the positive sense).

Clem, I can absolutely guarantee you: Using the SHM~SACD of the Who's Next as an example: If you polished it with Ultra-Vivid, demagnetized the disc both front and back with the Talisman and put a $40 SID damper over the disc (provided your transport accepts it: The OPPO BDP~83 does), you would be hearing an entirely different disc......I have had some less than stellar SACDs and believe me, the before and after results using my tweaks has rendered EVERY single SACD, DVD, Blu~ray and DVD~Audio eminently listenable.

I have been involved in Audio for over 45 years and there are a lot of rubbish Tweaks out there but I feel I now have it down to a science where I can wholeheartedly recommend these "canny" improvements to anyone.

Tweaks I employ on the OPPO:

Thanks for all that info. Heck of a lot of tweaks. I'll search for those items. I take it you like the OPPO! I've only heard and read great things about that player.

Your issue is not SACD vs Redbook. But Classical vs other genri.

If you do not like classical music then there's no reason to buy an SACD player

Oh I like Classical music alright; it's all I listen to. I am a Wagner FANATIC. However, the choices for Wagner on SACD right now are pathetic -- though there's two or three I want to listen to.

Thanks for going through all that rubbish and finding those diamonds you can recommend. Assuming your tweaks are good, it saves others a lot of time and money.

Wow, talk about deja vu all over again..I think we were having this same conversation (and possibly even the same humorous pictures) a year ago when I started nodding off.

Emani71 - assuming you are sincere and earnest in your quest for audio bliss, search the forum for the rather protracted thread of "Best Stereo/Hybrid SACD to see if can hear the difference between SACD and CD". Urbo71, or something close to that, posed a similar query here not too long ago.

Best of luck with your inquiries and efforts.
