Would it be possible to encode the CD layer of a hybrid to also include HDCD?

I just got the Delos Records Christmas SACD ( http://www.sacdinfo.com/showtitle.php?title=338 )

It says that it's a STEREO/MULTI-CH disc, but that the hybrid layer also has Dolby Surround. Given that record labels like Silva Screen are producing CDs which are HDCD and Dolby Surround compatible, would it be possible to encode the CD layer of an SACD with HDCD as well as Dolby Surround without interferring with SACD player compatibility?

This becomes interesting I think, since Reference Recordings - at the forefront of HDCD recordings - have been bought by Dorian, and Dorian promises to release Reference SACDs in the future. Might it be possible then to have HDCD hybrid layers on the same disc as the SACD-DSD Stereo/Multichannel?

There is at least one hybrid SACD that is also encoded as HDCD, and that is First Impression Music's release of Jazz at the Pawnshop. For all I know, all of FIM's SACD releases are also HDCD, but you would have to check with those who own them.

Technically, there's no reason that any process applied to CD can't be applied to the CD layer of a hybrid disc.

Even though you may never see such a disc, it's totally possible to have a Hybrid SACD with a DTS 5.1 CD layer for example.

Roxy Music's Avalon has the CD layer as HDCD as well as a SACD 2-channel/multi-channel. Great disc that I picked up today.

Although the label has the HDCD logo on it, my compatible Toshiba DVD-V player is not finding this disc to be HDCD-encoded.

I have a copy of the Dixies Chicks 'Home' alleged HDCD -but it isn't.
I also recently came across a remaster of Nick Drake on Island UK which had a lengthy blurb on the back as to the merits of HDCD only to have an extra round white sticker attached saying "NOT an HDCD" (sic).

A tad annoying!
