Discussion: Schubert, Schumann, Debussy - Rostropovich/Britten

I'm lazy. What's the best way for an English speaker to research/ pick some of these up? Also, could someone who has one of these provide the technical info? Are they master-tape to DSD? Thanks in advance.

If Universal Japan would release the treasures of the early Decca/EMI catalog I would be thrilled. I wish Pentatone would do a limited run if they could, perhaps in 3 channel (as someone suggested), to provide justification. The name could be changed to "Tritone." : )

The original is no longer available. You'll need to get the SHM-SACD version:

Schubert, Schumann, Debussy - Rostropovich, Britten

The CDJapan site supports English language orders.

Amazon Japan does as well. Though to save a bit, I may try CDJapan next time.

Man, did the original Universal Japan SACDs all sell out? Or were cancelled? I'd love to see some Ansermet unearthed. Maazel's L'enfant on DGG. I hope they don't go into a Karajan frenzy, (except for his Sibelius 4-7).

Where have you been?
The original Universal Japan 2004 releases started selling out after a couple years. Some lasted longer than others, depending on popularity.
BTW, they were all made from copies of the 24/96 archived masters.

Thank you for clarification regarding master source.

My apologies about where I've been! (up to my ears in Lp acquisition and playback--an all consuming hobby).

I'm sad but glad they sold out. I understand that in the Classical recording industry, a sell-out after a few years is considered a significant and all-to-uncommon home run. I don't know if that includes limited runs.

I've been ordering mine from www.cdbanq.com who seem to have good prices, the cheapest postage, nice customer svce, secure shipping, and a no-customs-hassles magic touch...
