Thread: Which SACD version of Jazz at the Pawnshop to get?

Hi all,

I'm a newbie who just purchased his first SACD player, the Marantz SA-11. I see that there are two SACD versions of Jazz at the Pawnshop: the double disk version from First Impression Music and a single disk version from Proprius. Which is better in terms of sound quality? The single disk version has most of the songs I like. But if the double disk version has better sound quality, then that's what I'll get. Thanks.

Wondering the same thing myself - looks like the single disc First Impression version might be getting scarce.

Anyone know why it is so expensive?

It's all really confusing. I have the TWO disc FIM SACD set and that is the one I posted my review for.

You are correct. I'm the one who is confused!

The First Impression version is a two-disc set, and is therefore the price of two SACD's.

It's amazing how little information is provided for this title (thank you TowerRecords.com for coming through with the answer)!

It looks like the new Proprius release is coming out in a number of volumes (maybe with added material?).

FIM is 2 discs, New version is 1 disc, the track order isn't same on two versions either.

FIM has mch, new 1 disc version is 2ch only.

I would recommend getting none of them. Seriously :-)

I have heard Vol.1 of the Pawnshop albums (on LP) and as a jazz fan, I'm wondering what is supposed to be so good about it. It's a third rate performance by mostly unknown (except Domnerus) scandinavian players. Really nothing to write home about.

For the price of this disc(s), you could have 2 or 3 SACDs of well recorded true jazz classics on SACD, like the Miles, Momk, Brubeck, Mingus on Sony or the Riverside/Contemporary/Prestige recordings on AP or Fantasy.

Thanks Claude! That settles it for me!
