Pavo Järvi on Telarc is in ok sound, yes Teresa if you are reading this, only ok, no more IMO,and uninspired and boring too.
Second rate orchestra and/or uninspiring conductor?

Jared I love your DSD recorded SACDs but I already have my FINAL versions of Rite of Spring, Firebird and Petrouchka by my favorite living conductor on my favorite label in two of the finest sounding SACDs in my collection: Stravinsky: Petrouchka, Firebird Suite etc - Järvi and Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring, Nielsen: Symphony No. 5 - Paavo Järvi I will of course be adding Channel SACDs to me collection of music I do not already have definitive versions of.

Chris I am sorry but this is one of the finest sounding SACDs in my collection and (for me) THE definitive performance of both The Rite of Spring and Nielsen's 5th Symphony. I am listening to it right now and there is no way in hell even one second of it is boring. To each their own.

Luckily for Jared and Bissie the rest of us find nothing is definitive and are always looking for more versions of our favourite works.

Jonty don't you quit looking when you discover the version perfect for you and move on to other classical compositions you do not already own? I do.

Only Telarcs are winners according to DSD

Well, they have a better track record with me than any other label, nearly every single Telarc SACD is fantastic!

Nope. I also keep going to concerts since great works of music always have more to tell us.

Theresa, as a lover of novelty i want to agree with you, so i'll concede that the Telarc sound on this disc is good and the Nielsen 5 is adequate, but how you can say definitive is beyond me. How many comparisons have you made? Just listen to the Blomstedt for an example. As for the Rite, it has no spring - its stodgy and very un-dangerous. Listen to ANY other recording. Still, differences of opinion are the spice of life, I guess.

Agree totally. How anyone can close out the book on a composition by a clearly mediocre conductor with a clearly mediocre orchestra is beyond me. There are so many better Rites out there than what Telarc has put out there with Jarvi.

I know I don't and I know very few who do quit looking, especially when there's better out there.
