I started to draw up a list of works I'd enjoyed over the years and which weren't on SACD or DVD-A or Blu Ray but even my short list ran to 34 pages and included many big-name composers and some of their most famous compositions. Zeus and Polly, please feel free to delete the list below if it's too long and/or self-indulgent. This very very short list includes:

STENHAMMAR Symphonies 1 -2; Piano Concertos 1 – 2; String Quartets 1 & 2

My estimate is that if the SACD companies were to record all of the above, I wouldn't see it finished in my lifetime, given the rate at which new works have appeared to date i.e. slowly.

I like these lists, as I usually can tell the compiler that they missed BIS so and such. Not here, but I can report that the Stenhammar Quartets will be recorded this year.

Best - Robert

Robert:

We appreciate all the effort you've extended in trying to fill these gaps. see jonalogic's post #60 in this thread. I am looking forward to more of the Prokofiev symphony (and other orchestral works)cycle particularly. Thanks!

Since someone started a new thread on this issue this week, I thought I would put in a quick update.

Scythian Suite and Harold in Italy are now done. Bergen has played most of the Prokofiev symphonies over the last couple of years, so I suspect bissie has the majority of the cycle in the can. It took a long time to get to the 2nd installment, I hope Bis will release the rest more quickly! Nielsen violin concerto will be covered by the NYP cycle shortly. The final installment in the ARS Haydn London Symphony cycle has been recorded, although I haven't seen a release date.

I am assuming that Bis will be releasing an Elgar cello concerto with Poltera, I believe bissie has hinted at this, but has not stated it definitively or indicated when it might be released.

We seem no closer to a Liszt Faust, RVW 7/9, Arnold Dances, Borodin 2, or Lalo Symphonie Espagnole. There is a Blu-Ray of the Liszt Faust from C-Major I believe. I am thinking of purchasing that. Has anyone here heard it and can comment on SQ and PQ?

I would love to see the orchestral works by Francis Poulence on SACD! Great that we have the organ symphony and a few others. Would love to have the rest!

There is a Chandos 24/96 download available of the Liszt Faust. Not multichannel, but very nice stereo sound.
