I receive this SACD today and am a lil' disappointed: admittedly there is no parasite breath or noise, but I find, the sounds of the instruments are not distinguished individually, and the total sound misses energy and contrasts. Regrettable because the program, indeed, was tempting... do you have heard this recording? What do you think of it?

I totally agree. The recording lacks brilliance and transparency.

By the way, did you notice as it is difficult to find CD with the two concertos for violin of Mendelssohn? Many offers only one of this concertos, coupled with that of Beethoven, Brahms, or Bruch _ a concerto for suicidal neurasthenic, this last.

Annoying, is not it?

dear GC, it is mildly annoying, usually because of the duplications involved, but there's a good recording of the earlier concerto on Pentatone that doesnt involve much duplication with any other SACDs (Mozart 5 and Schubert). Of the SACDs of the better known later concerto, they're all mixed bags (i dont own them all but have the chance to compare by borrowing losts of SACDs from an obsessive collector friend). The Midori is the best of the Mendelssohn performances, I think (if you like live recordings) and comes with a very Good Bruch 1; the Mullova Mendelssohn is quite good whereas her coupling, the Beethoven, is excellent (top sound too); and the Hahn is just okay (musically).
regards, B.

Many thanx for this review Brenda; by the way, I allow myself to ask you: is this recording of Mozart Concerto Köln - The Mozart Album really powerful? Of Köln Concerto I have, in DG, Wilms 6° and 7° Symphonies, excellent dynamic for a small orchestra _ but they has 3 trombones, which do not have Scottish Chamber Orchestra, I dunno if the comparison is judicious...

I took your advice Brenda and this morning received the disc. Indeed the orchestra sound very well! Perhaps the violin is it a little timid... but you will think, I'm never satisfied!

More seriously, I have just read the review resulting from amazon.co.uk, my impression is perhaps caused by the use of instrument of period; I go listen again! Thanx again for your opinions.

dear GC,i have this disc and really enjoy it. The performances are fresh and spirited and the sound, whilst not DSD is very clear and forthright. Yes, I'd say it was a powerful recording. Recommended. Regards, Brenda
