Dis, Pink Floyd has made more money than Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, Mozart and Vinny Van Gogh ever made in their entire lifetimes.

As the Old Masters and the Earless Wonder cannot be compared to Pink Floyd.......Pink Floyd is music of Our Time.

There is a place and will always be in my heart for the Old Masters and I even have a liking for The Music of the Prehistoric era, when grunting at the piano wasn't only the province of a modernistic Keith Jarrett,
but at least have some empathy for us Posters who literally "cream" when a new multichannel rock album is announced.

The vast majority of new SACD releases are classical (which I and others who also love R&R purchase) so forgive us for salivating at the prospect of a new Cat Stevens, or Billy Joel or whatever........

Elitist snobs are usually very lonely people who have literally closed their minds to trying and liking new things.

Open the door: You just might change your mind!

Ralph : Have you not heard the old saying I think originates from Yorkshire " Where there's muck there's brass" in case you do not know brass in this context means MONEY . So true with Rock etc ( might be music of our time but that does not mean you have to like it . So I take it you are in favour of rich long haired, pot smoking tatooed yobs stumming guitars & banging drums bang, bang bang incessant beat that can drive you up THE WALL plus hoarse screaming voices CRAP .When your 5400ES is finally broken in you will be over the moon, you can then visit "the dark side of the moon " as you seem to have more than enough time & MONEY to go into space. My door & mind are open for new things but not for foul rubbish.

How can any intelligent person or sane one for that matter listen to this Pink Floyd garbage ? Dark Side of the Moon starts with " I am fcuking mad" and if you are stupid enough to listen to all of it you end u p needing to take Asprin. so I have to assume its "up The Wall" again ?

The quote is by a roadie (I've forgotten his name) recorded in an interview by the band. The actual quote is (more or less): "I've been mad for f***ing years, absolutely years; I've been over the edge for yonks; comes with working with bands so long, crikey..." and it's run on a tape loop (one of many on this album).

You can hear the loop much more clearly on non-uk broadcast versions of the the November 1974 live recording from Wembley, originally broadcast by the BBC (the BBC faded the loop out on their broadcasts). When I saw Pink Floyd play this in 1974 (at the actual 16th November concert featured on the recording) the tape loop ran very loudly for about a minute or two (after about 10 minutes of heart beats:-) before the band appeared on stage.

A copy of the 1974 live recording (which may be remixed from the original multi-track tapes recorded by the band, rather than a straight copy of the BBC stereo master) will be included in the 'Immersion' box set of 'The Dark Side of the Moon'; so you will need that one in order to be able to properly wave your fists and rail against the madness of the world at liking Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of the Moon' LP.

I strongly suggest that you begin saving for it now though, as it's going to be quite pricey at around £100!

Toodle pip!

Remember, there was Meddle before Heavy Metal!

Black Sabbath's first album was released a year before Meddle and is generally regarded as the start of Heavy Metal...

Or maybe you're anxiously awaiting for Stacey Kent to interpret the Pink Floyd songbook?

Ummagumma!

Have you auditioned Stacey Kent's Richard Rodgers music ? I know of an even better RBCD that IMO SACD could not improve upon.

Ummagumma! what on earth is this ! I assume you have just woken up. Time to book your space flight to"The Dark Side of the Moon" probably from Russia only.I would not go for free.

It's the Pink Floyd album with my favorite song of theirs "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". My copy of the 2 LP set didn't sound so good sonically, perhaps the masters can be rescued for an SACD release? The music is very unusual and interesting, one reviewer called it "Stockhausen and space rock collide".

"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" sounds better to my ears on Roger Waters: In The Flesh

By any chance do you have an elevator in your house, Mr. Muzak?

And your sweeping statement that the RBCD of Stacey Kent couldn't possibly be bettered by transfer to SACD shows you really have little faith in the SACD format....

Even SACDs pressed in the early days of the format have been improved upon by utilizing better master tapes and converters.

IMO, a preposterous statement!

Stacey's rendition of "I'm Gonna Wash that Man right Outta My Hair" must have been dedicated to you, DIS!
