Is this definitely going to be an SACD? On Chandos' website it says:
"Format: Digital CD 16Bit 44.1Khz Originally recorded in: DSD"
http://www.chandos.net/details06.asp?CNumber=CHSA%205091
The cover says SACD, Amazon says SACD, but it seems strange that Chandos have been quite clear both about the origin of the recording and the format. Hmm??

Probably be available in both formats - dual inventory - the CD version being much cheaper. Chandos are usually reliably good to their word so this will be a DSD recorded SACD.
Ralph, any thing to tell us?

I hope the 16bit info on the website is an error. All the other indications (booklet, product number) suggest it is a hybrid SACD. Maybe the webmaster put it into the wrong category and the CD info is added automatically.

I do hope so. Desert Music is one of my favourite 20C works, so it'd be great to have this on a 21C medium!

It'd be helpful to get a comparison with the piece's premiere recording on Nonesuch (RBCD).

I just ordered my copy and according to Fanfare Magazine, it's both better recorded and executed than the MTT Nonesuch Recording. And it's also a DSD mch recording, as well. And according to the composer himself: This (the Chandos recording) is the best I've heard!

Have you received this yet?
Just ordered this yesterday along with Elton John's "Honky Chateau". which has been sitting in my wish list for the past year.
I've just been listening to all the tracks of this at: http://www.theclassicalshop.net/Details.aspx?CatalogueNumber=CHAN%205091
.... and for the first time in years, I'm really excited about this music genre and this recording specifically. It's what I've been searching for, for a long time. Probably be some sleepless nights I reckon, until this arrives. : )

This recording has been on my wish list since launch but keeps getting passed over partly because of less than satisfactory reviews by UK journals Gramophone and BBC Music and a mixed reaction on here.
Quite often it is wise to back one's own instincts. Not many changes of heart seem to lead to satisfaction.
