I don't understand the logic in only including the 9th symphony. Would it really have increased costs to fill out the disc by including another 35 minutes of music?

We're talking Japan here. I have never known releases from Japan (especially classical) to "fill out" discs. Of course, there may be the rare exception.

Maybe not the SACDs, but I have a bunch of the Japanese RCA Ormandy Centennial discs, and they were filled out to the point that some of the filler was an odd match for the main program.

I can understand the high premium price and all, but as I see it, there is 40 minutes of unused space on the disc.

As laudable as the "SHM~SACD" project is (and it IS), when one can purchase 11 Pentatone SACD Discs {Pentatone~The First 10 Years}, 10 of which are DSD recorded and multichannel, as well, for $65 (US....do the math)....all of which are Imports, to these shores, at least, it seems rather foolish to commit $56+ for 35 minutes of music.

The SHM~SACD project is well into its third year so perhaps they will see fit to reduce the list price and will probably sell MORE product in the process (as if the Japanese economy isn't tanking, as well).

Greed is just NOT sexy in a faltering economy!

BTW, CDJapan has "priced down" a lot of their current (2011) SHM~CDs.........so if that is any indication.....

You'd have to look at the original cd release of previous releases of the same material. Japanese record companies generally follow what they did in previous releases. If the filler seemed odd for the one you bought, it would have probably been a part of an earlier release as well.

they added two overtures (In Nature`s Realm Op.91 and Carnival Op.92) to the blu-spec cd release. What are they thinking?
