I agree with analogue's comments and don't mind being in the minority.
The bass in particular was lacking the dynamics of the standard CD. Seemed a bit distant?
The mids and highs were very detailed and sparklingly clean.
The lack of bottom end seemed to be more noticeable on the first track, "shine on you crazy diamond".

Would be interested to hear James Guthrie's comments.

There was no such problem with DSOTM SACD.

EMI Japan edition of WYWH (part of Discovery box) sounds way better than this SACD. Stereo only comparison, of course.

I finally acquired this title within the past week and I find it's LFE track quite amazing. Very detailed, balanced and dynamic.

One of the problems I have with a lot of (RBCD?) titles is that bass is overly exaggerated and boomy, apparently to appease the LCD crowd.

One glaring example of this is "Come Together" on remastered "Abbey Road" (2009). It's quite unlistenable as it shakes the house apart.

Iain, have you ever experimented with Shakti Holograms. They're a bit pricey but placed in the corners of your listening room, they will help "focus" the bass and other transients. I have my listening room in an unwiedly basement with 2 huge (6'2") bass modules (Genesis) driven by a 2000 watt bass amp and without those holograms I would certainly be in a pickel.

Cheaper remedies like Room Tunes also help quite a bit, but the Holograms are really very very special.

analogue is a nice guy, and I generally agree with most of his reviews, but I'm just not hearing the same thing you guys are hearing in this case. This is easily one of the best SACDs currently residing in my collection, both in terms of music and sound quality. I finally got a chance to listen to the much coveted and highly regarded 35DP-4 2 track, and while I can see why people would prefer this redbook mastering over all others, the SACD easily mitigates the need to spend ridiculous money for it. As far as I'm concerned the Immersion Blu-ray and SACD are the definitive digital versions of this album hands down.

I find a huge improvement over the RBCD version. I have only listen in stereo, but I am very impressed by the presence of the drums, the guitars sound amazingly detailed, and the timbres of the keyboards are very rich. I really enjoy this release.

Under the "Top Sellers" tab this is now #1, DSOTM dropped to #3. Despite it's $35 retail price.

Which leads to question, why has Amazon.com raised their price to $42.89? That's $7.89 over retail.

By comparison DSOTM SACD is $14.28, that's $4.71 below retail, both are in stock.

Analogue Productions SACDs are not as easily available to the big stores as they were before, when the discs were discounted at around $20-25 several weeks after the release date. It looks like AP is more restrictive now. Their latest Impulse! and Verve reissues are still $35 on Amazon.

Amazon lists the current WYWH offering as an import, so they got it from a different source (an additional intermediary), which would explain the higher price.

I was fortunate to purchase WYWH during one of Amazon's gold box specials and all I can say is that it is one of the best sounding Recreations and a true 5.1 masterpiece....positively organic in its implementation of surround.

I have rarely EVER been disappointed by Analogue Productions SACDs and consider them worth every penny.

Though I am at times disappointed by their choice of material, they are at least consistent in their very high standards.

If more albums like WYWH were released, the format would, IMO, be moving in a more mainstream direction and with the upcoming Cat Stevens, Norah Jones and the Doors 'tubed' 5.1 SACDs and some upcoming "surprises" (yes, they're coming) the format should indeed attract some new blood into the fold.

Perhaps too little too late but better late than never!
