I personally don't like this cover at all, and find it inappropriate - I prefer the BIS cover by a long way.

Dear David,

Your comparison with Egmont or Prometheus fails because Beethoven chose the subject. There is no such subject in the symphony by Sibelius.

I like the Handel cover simply because it is funny. And funny is rare in classical music. And you can see from the comments on this site that most people have no sense of humour whatsoever.

If I were a designer of record covers and received praise on this site I would seriously wonder what I did wrong. Again: I have nothing against the design as such, it is the picture in this context I dislike. It looks like a romantic picture postcard.

Come on, Vaan, please enlighten us with a masterpiece. Do provide an alternative cover for this release ('No problem whatsoever. Easiest thing in the world', dixit)

'Your comparison with Egmont or Prometheus fails because Beethoven chose the subject. There is no such subject in the symphony by Sibelius.'

I only responded to your statement that the swans were out of place because they are only relevant to a minor part of the music on the disc. I can respond to this latest statement as well, but seriously, I'm not willing to spend more time on this quasi-debate. If you can't spend five minutes or so to design an alternative cover, I'm not going to waste more time on you.

'I like the Handel cover simply because it is funny. And funny is rare in classical music. And you can see from the comments on this site that most people have no sense of humour whatsoever.

I think that cover is good, funny and yes, I agree that humour should occupy a larger space in classical music. Totally agreed!

'If I were a designer of record covers and received praise on this site I would seriously wonder what I did wrong.'

Why on earth do you spend so much time with people you obviously scorn? Are you the Messiah? Sorry, I can't take you seriously anymore and end the discussion here.

David,

I can´t understand this hostility from you. Also, I spend very little time on this site, almost no time at all actually.

Am I the Messiah? No. And I never pretended to be. Again, why this hostility?

Dear Vaan,

My apologies for any offence taken! I didn't think my post was hostile at all.

However, I find this sentence:

'If I were a designer of record covers and received praise on this site I would seriously wonder what I did wrong.'

to be incredibly disrespectful and insulting. Receiving praise from an outstanding photographer such as Juan Hitters makes me proud. I don't know who the other contributors here are or what they do professionally, but I'm quite convinced that they are grown-up, intelligent people with their own perfectly valid thoughts and taste.

If you want to discuss further, send me an email.

I wouldn't think that someone as hypercritical as you are would be so thin-skinned!

Hypercritical or hypocritical?

From thread Stravinsky Firebird:

Qualiton actually took an unprecendented amount of Sibelius upon my shouting-from-the-rooftops' recommendation, really going out on a limb. The day before yesterday they made a new order of the Sibelius, more than doubling the initial amount, so it must be safe to assume that the first big shipment is sold out and people are queueing up for more. Heck, the disc is worth it.
