From today's sponsored site review:

"it was wonderful to hear it again sounding as fresh as it must have done in Dresden during those first two weeks in September 1972."

Is that because EMI washed it with their special Dyson vacuum cough remover, then to 24 bit 96khzzzzzzz, then rinse and wash, then back to analogue, add CEDAR wood polish remover, add three coats of lacquer and remove everything with turps and dettol mix, and ... it all sounds fresh ... like a bottle of dettol after someone went blech?

Alex also writes "Sonically this set is marginally but clearly finer than the GROC set which itself is very enjoyable", which puts things well into perspective about the sonic advantage (or lack of it) of this new reissue.

Too bad, one more fine multichannel recording (at least as far as remember from the original EMI-Electrola obviously compromised SQ matrixed lps) re-issued in stereo only.

THe Philadelphia set on RBCD is better than Dresden. Heresy, I know, but it is still better. May be out of print now, however; was only available via the orchestra's own website.

Let's be realistic here. Few professionals could match the Abbey Road engineers at stain-removing, bleaching, washing and tumble-drying those EMI analog masters. But outside the audio world, I still think that Mr. Bong, the Korean dry-cleaner across the street, could also do a heck of a job sucking up all the air (and some of the music) from those tapes, for less money and including next-day home delivery.

Will patiently await a reissue of these SACDS from EMI~UK at hopefully 1/3 the price so that I'll have money left over not only for drycleaning but to put a little something in my Bong, as well!

Yes me too. I hope EMI UK will release them on the much affordable 'Signature' series. East German recording of that venue & era sounds similar to Decca's great recordings at Kingswall Hall.

Well, since this set is my favorite big band Schumann, it looks like a no-brainer.

I received this set yesterday and I am very, very pleased with it. The recording sounds dramatically cleaner and more present than the previous CD incarnation.

I used to wonder if I was missing something, because I had never really liked these recordings in the previous redbook release (despite the near unanimous raves). The recorded acoustic used to sound murky, veiled, tubby and indistinct. A grey, opaque glaze seemed to obscure instrumental lines, textures and details.

The remastering team have performed a miracle. The SACD remastering has greatly clarified instrumental lines, sound colors, textures and timbres making for a vastly improved musical experience. I recommend this version highly.

This might be returning into Japanese circulation as a Warner Classics SACD release, analogous to my recent thread about the Furtwångler SACD reissues as Warner SACDs.

How do you know that?
