Got my copy today--it's one of the most enjoyable piano recordings that I've heard in a while. Combine his technical wizardry, musical understanding, and passionate playing with beautiful music and state-of-the-art sound, and one has a winning combination!

Might I ask who the producer and engineer was/were?

Yes, certainly: Marion Schwebel (Sudbin's "Court Producer") for one part, Jens Braun (Freddy Kempf's "Court Producer") for another, because of Marion's Motherhood leave. They each doubled as Producer and Recording Engineer for their resp parts.

Thanks Robert for the info. Not wanting to turn this into another thread, but as I have mentioned before, Marion Schwebel is, to my ears, one of the best out there. Is she expected to return to the studio in the foreseeable future?

She is, indeed, one of the best!
And she is returning rather soon.

I do hear a fair amount of pedal/damper sound, but it's not too obtrusive.

I just found this video of Sudbin playing Scarbo from Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit for those of you who'd like to see this young wizard in performance:

Looking forward to this one. I like Kempf, though I still prefer a DG recording of the 80s by Ivo Pogorelich. Kempf uses some rubato that I find distracting.

Young wizard???

He's been around an awfully long time and time enough to become a great had he the potential.

Seen him live on a number of occasions, not really A list material. Don't be fooled by the general all-round improvement in the technical ability of so many new proteges that now grace the ivory keys who's wizardry seems to be a figment of the marketing machine's imagination.

Wizards are even rarer than Genii.

Damn...I hate being wrong.
