Does anyone own this set, besides me? (No reviews, and no recommendations until I hit the recommended button). This has been on my want list since a Fanfare reviewer named it the best rendition of the Annees, bar none. I received it a few days ago, and played the first disc last night. I don't know this music at all, and can't offer a comparison to other recordings, but it certainly sounds like a fine recording.

This is just my second purchase of a Lyrinx release - the first was the set of Mozart String Quintets that I raved about in my review - if you love Mozart or chamber music, this is a must have.

Any other recommendations from Lyrinx?

Hi Tream Yes Ive had this for quite a while.I thought I had posted a review once which seems to have gone astray.Yes this is a fantastic set.Not to be listened to in one sitting though. Not sure I would rank it as the all time greatest but it is very high up.These works can sound a bit bland in parts but not on this set.To make you really annoyed I won these on ebay for less than 10 dollars.I even apologised to the seller.Colour of the discs is off putting and the booklet could be more infomative.I bid on anything sacd and suprise to me No one else bid?..Ive also got Caroline Sageman doing The great Sonata and a few other Lizst pieces which is also excellent and the "Years " Pieces are probably better on that disc.
Another goodun is David Galoustovs violin/piano recital and also worth listening to is th Albeniz disc But only the latter pieces.Im not at all struck on the playing of Spanish Pieces in a French style as it loses an awfull lot.Sonics are also a bit muzzy for the beginning as its slightly underrecorded.Dave

I've bid on this on eBay too, without success!

I do however strongly recommend the Lyrinx SACD of French violin sonatas, for which I wrote a review.

This is now out-of-print (natch). At last check it was in stock at Acoustic Sounds. At around $65, it is a bit too rich for me.

But on My 28, 2010, I received an email from Suzanne Gambini at Lyrinx with the follwing update:

"this box is not in stock since two years. The new publication is planned for 2011, in the new presentation of D-Pak, for the Liszt’s year."

I will wait!

The question remains whether the "new publication" will be on SACD too.

I have this set - bought it used from someone on this site who had an extra copy. It is a very fine recording and performance, with real cohesion - no doubt that Rubackyte is very attentive to the score and brings that out with genuine and appropriate expressiveness. Year III is especially good. This set belongs up there with Berman as one of the top 2 or 3 Annees, though it is not really a clone of any of them - make no mistake that these an individual performance. The DSD sound is great as well.

I heard back from Lyrinx; the new edition WILL be in SACD:

"Bien sûr , puisque le coffret Lyr. 2216 est déjà en SA-CD !"

I jumped the gun and shelled out the $$$ to Acoustic Sounds. I had been looking for this set anyway even before I switched to SACD (January of this year), so it was sort of a priority. There are surprisingly few "complete sets" of these works.
