I have found the Groove Note releases to have consistently excellent sound, and this one is no exception. It is also one of their several releases that were licensed from Concord Jazz prior to that company"s decision to release Super Audio products on its own. As such, this recording in particular distinguishes itself from the many Concord SACD releases that have since followed in that it demonstrates just how important attention to detail is in producing a quality recording. This and the other Groove Note CJ releases are all superior to Concord's own.
The recording comes from live performances at the Blue Note in November and December of 1985. Harris is among a few excellent contemporary pianists who carry on the tradition of mid- 20th century trios; Stanley Turrentine, noted tenor sax great guests here, with the legendary Ray Brown backing these two giants.
If you like this kind of music, you will love this recording. Highly recommended.
