Its a surprise how small incremental hardware changes can make the greatest differences in the sound of a previously mediocre disc.
When i purchased this sacd back in the day I was not very impressed. Its not that it sounded terrible but it just didn't grab me the way so many sacd;s do nowadays. The best way to describe the sound was neutral and boring. Somewhat scrubbed of life and passion.

That was then.

When I took this sacd out for another listen I was so shocked at how good this disc actually is.

After several small changes to my cabling and a new player this disc sounds tremendous. I wouldn't want any CCR lovers out there who like this album to pass up on the opportunity to grab a great sounding classic rock sacd.

I own six of the Hoffman mastered sacd;s and I believe this one to be the best SACD done. It has that master tape spirit feel to it. What once sounded boring has sprung to life in a very dramatic way. Three dimensional presence, warm sound field, dynamics and incredibly lifelike timbers and real instruments that sound totally lifelike and real. Cymbals and drum skins sound as real as could be. Acoustic guitar strings....vocals....you name it. Its all great on this disc. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. This sacd is a great sounding disc any way you look at it.

Yes....CCR is not Rush or Yes. They are very raw and almost crude by comparison. But their music is still very addictive and catchy. Perhaps the rhythm section and deep drumming playing together in that unique way accounts for the catchy music. And they are a vital part of classic rock HISTORY.

Pendulum is a very solid release from start to finish and the band even takes time out to solo and jam here and there. Its highly crankabLe and if your system allows for the full breadth of sound to come out without distortion.....then You are in for a great treat.

I could go on and on.

An essential CCr sacd and a great mastering job.
Highly recommended.

Until now, I had never owned any of CCRs SACDs, and admittedly I was a bit reluctant to plunk down $25 for a disc that had received so many mixed reviews. After playing a few times and at various db levels, I think I’ve figured out the reason for all of the critical-inconsistency. Much like some of AP’s other SACD re-issues, like the great John Coltrane Blue Train, the recording level of Pendulum is a bit low in comparison to most SACDs out there. From my experience, this is by no means a reflection of inferior quality. It does mean, however, that you need to kick up the wattage in order to bring out the soul of this disc. At volume set to “3” from my 100 watt/channel amp, the output did sound a bit buried. Next day with the wife gone and knob cranked to “6”, this was a different sound experience altogether. In fact, the opening riffs and vocal on the first track, “Pagan Baby” are so mind-dumbingly crystal clear and forward sounding, you’d swear Fogerty was right there, plugged into your amp. Other stand-outs include track 4, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”, and track 7, “Hey Tonight”. But seriously, I’d pay $50, just to own that first track; WOW!

Wondered why no one had reviewed this album yet and now i know. Its a bit of a disappointment after the other albums that came before it. For me i only enjoyed about 3 of the tracks. I really did not enjoy the sound on this one. Not a problem with the mastering though its just not a very good sound anyway. It has none of the bite and passion that made the earlier work exciting. If you have the cd/lp already then you can probably live without this one.
