Performance:   Sonics:
The two works presented here were originally written for String Quartets. Russian composer and conductor Rudolf Barshai composed these transcriptions for string orchestra. In this form, the music opens up even further, giving a more detailed account of the inner voices of the music.

The Scottisch Ensemble is agood chamber orchestra, with a sound that is flexible and elegant, but I found the conducting of Clio Gould a bit bland, especially in the Shostakovich piece.

The recording perse is good and detailed. Good surround sound.
