Performance:   Sonics:
Brubeck is one of the Gods of Jazz. And there are several outstanding SACD recordings to prove it. This is not one of them. Mono recordings on an SACD are like tennis shoes on a squid. They're interesting, bizarre, perhaps even artful. But ultimately, it's a huge waste of effort. The performance on this disc is incredible, but you can't appreciate it in all it's glory because of the mono quality. The bass is to low and distant, the sax is lifeless and dull, the drums are also indistinct and distant. About the only thing that sounds good is Brubeck's piano. If you're a musician and you want to hear his playing style & chops, this album is for you. If you are an audiophile looking for a live experience, get Time Out and leave this one for the academics.
