Performance:   Sonics:
Children being the main theme behind this very well recorded disc and I think it will go down well in that area.Even with some of the bigger and very old ones..Comparing Gielgud with Connerys Decca Phase 4 version shows the former to be a much more civilized less dramatic speaking part and slightly the same orchestrally. The tone recording and playing orchestrally are beyond criticism.A fair way from the early releases of this label. The only comment that becoves obvious from the first few words is the different accoustic for voice (small studio) and the expansive large CTS studio. To me they have just about got it spot on now.Im curious whether the surrond version is different.
The second piece by IMO the much underated Saint Saens is superb.Especially the piano playing which will really bring a smile to your face.Interpretation is probably Close to the best and makes this disc real value for money.I must confess when I heard this piece umpteen years ago I hated it.I do wish we had more of his works, concertos tone poem, overtures the lot on sacd.

Bizets seems the least effective piece but also has plenty of good tunes. It seems to drop the standard a fraction.I was dissapointed with the conducters previous sacd but this overall is a lot better...Nothing to complain about but nothing to get excited about either.Worth it for one work alone.Gaps between works still questionable and same usual comments re notes/artwork...D
