No, that is NOT a pipe organ on this disc. It sounds like a Rogers analog electronic organ. UGH, another 3-manual radio!!! Maybe they can rent an Allen digital instrument from Macungie, Pennsylvania, for the next big program that requires an organ.

The performance is excellent but this piece of music is Strauss at his note-spinning worst. The textures and colors are glorious, but taking this trip up this mountain is not exactly rewarding, and that is NOT the fault of the musicians. The orchestra plays brilliantly for the conductor and the sound is excellent.

In spite of the the effort required to bring off this work, which the Pittsburgh musicians do very fluidly, the work remains, at best, a third-rate piece of drivel.

So, enjoy this deep-friend Twinkie mit schlag...

This work is deservedly neglected... The themes are retarded and they just drone on and on. No amount of brilliant orchestration will turn lack of inspiration into great art.
