Performance:   Sonics:
Exceptional disc all around which raises to new heights the status of Prazak Quartet, Madame Caiello and Praga Digitals.

Both compositions are new to SACD, so no comparisons and competition. Firstly, in Pierrot Lunaire Op. 21 I must admit great performance of Alda Caiello, who provides full range of emotions incorporated by Shoenberg with her perfect German. Her voice is on top level, ideally suits to chamber and cabaret character of this so-called "Red Mass". When the cycle reaches the last lines of the final sprech-song one need to keep oneself from push the repeat button. Luxurious and deep tone of Prazak's members with friends under artistic general management and conducting of Prof. Johaness Meissl matches the performance of Madame Caiello. Overall the interpretation is of immaculate finish and finesse.

Suite Op. 29 is a perfect coupling to Pierrot. The score requires the same group of instruments (except flute) with welcome addition of two more clarinets one of which is bass one. The Suite sounds like Pierrot without voice and very bright and intense. Frankly I haven't heard any other recording of this piece but I cannot imagine more convincing performance than done by Prazak and friends under the baton of Pavel Hula.

As I said before the coupling is ideal and allowed to distribute the compositions into two equal parts of the disc, both running 34 minutes in average.

The recording - native DSD multichannel - is up to usual PRAGA standards, does not give the slightest detail to escape from the microphones.

This SACD gives much to evaluation of Pierrot Lunaire and Suite, once being a radical act in Western Music.
Highest possible recommendation!
