Performance:   Sonics:
This is interesting SACD with superb sonics! Jaakko Kuusisto's (born 1974) Violin Concerto is humorously work. First movement's opening violin cadenza leads listener to the piece's magical world.
The orchestration is colorful, and specially the dazzling finale is very effectively. BIS label's breathtaking recording captures Sibelius Hall's surrounding acoustics. Bass drum's deep strikes - in the second movement - are stunning (watch out your subwoofer!).
This is worth hearing work and maybe the 21th Century's the best Violin Concerto! I hear many similarity things between Kuusisto's and Erich Wolfgang Korngold's (1897-1957) Concertos. Both works are like film music scores, and they have virtuosity finales and unforgettable melodies. Very exciting listening experience!

Disc's other works are also very interesting. [In Leika] Kuusisto writes lyrical melodies, and Lahti Symphony Orchestra plays magnificent. Corigliano's Violin Concerto is delightful bonus.

This is wonderful disc for all violinist and classical music fans! If you don't like modern music, don't worry. These works aren't hard to understand. State-of-art recording and wonderful performances are very impressing. Highly recommend, definitely!
