Was really surprised to see this title chosen for the SACD format, sort of an offbeat artist and Excitable Boy never struck me as an audiophile work. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! The clarity and presence of the instruments/vocals is phenomenal. Instantly notice the strength of the bass guitar, listen closely and you'll detect the plucking of the strings. The piano shines, you can hear it resonate, especially on "Accidentally Like A Martyr". "Excitable Boy" is what really get me though...as Warren sings, almost cheerily, about a macabre subject you hear Linda's doo-waps backing him up...eerie. And of course his most famous song "Werewolves of London" is such a delight and must be cranked. The only quibble I have, the rhythm/lead guitar guitars are a little buried in the mix. All in all though, this one puts a smile on my face, even with a darker subject matter.
