System is a 11.2 with Two Denon AVR, Emotiva 200X5, and Klipsch Reference series speakers. Its a better system than I ever hoped to have in earlier days. I agree with the good things written about the disc. One of my favorite tracks is Straighten Up and Fly Right. I love the way it starts with an old, scratchy, tinny version and then breaks into the newer version and just plain makes me happy. Watermelon Man is another favorite and there is really ... more
Junior Wells: Come On In This House        (2 of 2 found this review helpful)

I agree with all the very positive reviews I read here. Junior Well is certainly one of the greats of blues and this disc puts his right in the room with you. I was astounded by the lineup of whos whos of blues who contributed. The sonics are right up there with the best and I have played it many ... more

This is an amazing, wonderful SACD which easily tops everything else I have in terms of sonics. I realize now that Karens voice was masterful and this certainly adds to the disc tremendously but I can't think of anything I have that sounds so crisp, clean, and real. OK, the synthesizer is an issue ... more
Mary Chapin Carpenter: Time* Sex* Love*      (2 of 2 found this review helpful)

Kind of a crossover country pop. Thoughtful lyrics. Good melodies. Very good mix and sonics. What more could you ask for. Nice for a change. Also, Mary has a beautiful and distintive voice. Gets a little meloncholy sometimes but not a deal breaker. I give it two thumbs up.
Norah Jones: Come Away With Me        (0 of 2 found this review helpful)

Its a great album but what poor job making an SACD of it. I'm so sorry that I can't recommend this as I'm a big fan. I couldn't wait to get home and listen and it was a real disappointment. I prefer the RB far and away. Not recommended unless rereleased and remixed in a way that the material ... more

Discussion: Norah Jones: Come Away With Me

I have to revise my first discussion. It really is a poor mix and the RB CD is better by a long shot. I've been comparing the two side by side and as much as I was rooting for the SACD there is not way I could recommend it. Its a great disc and should be enjoyed fully...thats RB. Hopefully a new release will be issued. ... more

SACD and DVD-A - No Point?

I brought up a new thread recently having to do with the TRL Sony CE 595 Mod. First I've put about four hundred hours break in into the unit which Paul Wetzel of TRL says is only part of the five hundred required. Last night on the first playing of Tumbleweed Connection, I blurted out the words, I've never heard music like that before. It was a ... more
Shopping for a New Player

I've owned the Sony CE595 for a couple of months and have found it to be a very enjoyable addition to my system. I read rave reviews about the Tube Research Labs modifications so I sprung for the $750.00 and just got it back yesterday. It sounds better but the widely held belief, including the owner of TRL is that it requires about three weeks of ... more
Discussion: Concord Records SACD Sampler, Vol. 1

I can see that, but since I'm new to Jazz and SACD, I feel like a kid in a candy store and a fifty dollar bill. My wife who has much more musical experience than I has a similar nonplussed opinion about these recordings. Thankfully I can still enjoy. ... more
