Classical fans beware: this title at times attacks you sonically from all sides. Forget surround sound used to provide hall ambience, this title easily convinces that surrounds were invented to be used aggressively.
If Yo-Yo Ma's cello is mostly placed in the front with surrounds providing hall ... more |

THE YELLOW RIVER CONCERTO
Daniel Epstein, Eugene Ormandy and The Philadelphia Orchestra open this program with a lovely piano concerto based on Chinese folk tunes. The tunes are well-chosen, all memorable and pleasant, and fairly mainstream in their sound, avoiding some of the harsher sonorities ... more |

With all due respect to John Morgan who has done a fantastic job reconstructing this and other old film scores and to William Stromberg who conducts these Golden Age classics better than anyone, this particular entry in their series of classic film scores seriously overstays its welcome.

Last month, I asked Naxos an unrelated question and tagged a question as to why they're not releasing anymore DVDAs and SACDs. This is what I got on the subject:
"We regret that we have stopped releasing new SACD and DVD-A releases – DVD-A is already dead and SACD is dying – in 2005 sales of SACD’s dropped about 40% as compared to 2004 and continue ... more |

As long as you don't exceed a certain treshold per order (about 175$), CDUniverse will ship via Deutsche Post Global Something or Other.
That means that, in Montreal, I get my CDs from CDUniverse about seven days after they shipped... except they were mailed in Mississauga with a Canadian shipping label. So no taxes.
