Genesis 1970-1975        (8 of 19 found this review helpful)

Does not get much worse than this. Not only did they remix the albums, they torched the dynamics & applied excessive EQ. This is how you destroy works of art. Foxtrot DR13 DR10 (SACD) Nursery Cryme DR12 DR9 (SACD) Selling England by the Pound DR14 DR10 (SACD) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway ... more
The Band: Stage Fright        (5 of 6 found this review helpful)

These are the original mixes, and the mastering holds its ground against the original Ludwig LP. After hearing the MFSL, I tossed my remixed DCC out the car window and watched a semi truck smash it into a million pieces.
Kenny Burrell: Midnight Blue        (3 of 6 found this review helpful)
  April 10, 2014

Midnight Blue was the 1st jazz album I ever listened to a few years back, and its still my favorite. All of these AP/Blue Note titles (50?) are significant upgrades over previous redbook editions. This series is one of the best examples of what the format is capable of with proper mastering and ... more

This Audio Fidelity disc contains the best digital masterings for most of these songs. They are the vintage mixes found on the orig. LP's. The MFSL SACD's are hit or miss partially due to some of them using remixed source tapes. Audio Fidelity should go back and remaster Greatest Hits Vol. I on ... more
Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols      (6 of 11 found this review helpful)

I agree with jcarr. Dynamics have been compressed and the sound is fatiguing. Disappointing since this was supposedly taken from the original UK tapes. Wasted opportunity.

Here is a section of Scotty's latest review which 3 out of 3 people have rated as helpful. "Now lets talk about the sonics...this is not compressed as some others have mentioned" Wrong. It is compressed and the dynamic range has been squashed to give you that bright, fatiguing sound. jcarr73729 covered this as well in a previous review. "The ... more

You are asking the right questions. The quality of reissues on HDtracks is all over the place (Acoustic Sounds looks similar). The Bill Evans - Waltz for Debby is a great example of how reissues should be listed. http://www.hdtracks.com/classic-100-jazz/waltz-for-debby-192-24 "Remastered by Paul Stubblebine using the Keith Johnson-designed ... more
